"…earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints" Jude 3.

The Pursuit and Destiny of an Empowered Church

Topic – The Pursuit and Destiny of an Empowered Church

Text – Matthew 16:18; John 14:1-3; 17:14-15,24
We have a goal, hopes destiny, moving on and pursuing after that final home, habitation and heaven and nothing will stop us on the way.
Christ referred to the church as His own Church, and He is the One that is building that church, and this church is refer to as
1. A flock with a shepherd
2. A fold with an overseer
3. Family of same members
4. Fellowship
5. Assembly
6. Habitation
7. Temple
8. Congregation
The church is made up of called out people. Not a collection of the world, Demas, not Judas but people that are cleansed, converted and committed people. Not people that want to die the death of the righteous but not willing to live the life of the righteous. The church is the assembly of the called out ones, called out of sin, and into His righteousness. And He empowers them because they have a goal, an assignment from the Lord and a destiny in heaven.
The church is not of the world, but called, cleansed out of the world, live contrary to the world, refused to compromise with the world, but are here to convert the world.
3 points;
Point 1. The Precondition and Marks of the Conquerors
1 Corinthians 15:2
By which ye are kept, remained saved, if you keep in memory that which I preached unto you.
What are the marks we know about the pilgrims on their way to heaven
1. Sonship and daily victory over sin – John 1:12; Psalms 78:41; 1 John 3:1-3,9-10; 5:18
Keep that assurance in mind, and temptations and trials will come, stand in the victory that the Lord has given you over sin.
They receive Him totally, and turn from unrighteousness unto His righteousness. And you are not dividing Christ, but you receive Him totally. In the limitation of what I know now, I receive you now without reservation. If you turn back from Him, then you are limiting the Holy One of Israel. Don’t limit God.
A christian is not a sinner, and a sinner is not a christian.
He sinneth not. Born again, sins not. We know from experience, by His grace and for His Presence, we do not sin if we are born again.
2. Divine Ownership and absolute surrender – Proverbs 23:26; 1 Corinthians 6:19,20; 8:1-5
It’s not your life, ye are not your own. The Lord gave His life for you, and you ought to give Him your all. I am given, sold, bought and belong to the Lord entirely.
3. Humility and lowliness – Matthew 11:29; 23:12; Philippians 2:5-8; James 4:6-7,10; 1 Peter 5:5-6
This is the lifestyle of Christ. Take His yoke upon you, that is not an option, nor opinion. There are people who never learn to say no, nor restriction on their dressing, outlook, what to say, eat, how to behave, and where to go.
Those who are not humble will not get into the kingdom of God. Be humble. That wristwatch in your hand will be useful as long as it stays in its place on your hand, but if you take that wristwatch and place it near that big bell, that little wristwatch will lose its usefulness. So stay humble and be in the place God has placed you to be useful in His hands and kingdom. Be humble.
If there is arrogance, pride behind your ministration to the people of God, God will resist your usefulness. It’s takes humility to remain useful before God.
4. Daily bridle, check, limitation on the tamed tongue – Matthew 12:36; James 1:26; 3:1-2
Many people don’t understand that there are times to talk, and times not to talk. The tongue can nullifies your chance of getting to heaven. Your tongue can ruin and destroy you. At that idle moment, words of no profit, useless words come out of your mouth. If you knew that God listens, records every conversation, you will check your mouth, lip and tongue.
5. Faithfulness, fellowship and transparency in the family – Matthew 24:45; Luke 16:10; Hebrews 13:4; Isaiah 58:7
As we are nearing the end of the journey of our Christian race as we see all the signs all happening around us, this is the time to bring back the teachings of the word that are practical, and will transform our lives. Husbands and wives, living in the same home, but different in convictions and beliefs of the Bible. We must be one, united in faith. Faithful to God, to His word, to your partner, and do everything as you would have done if your partner is there.
Fellowship that is peculiar only to the wife or husband, that you will never give even the appearance of that to any man or woman.
And that you are transparent, not hide yourself from your wife or husband. Be open to one another.
6. Living with conviction with compromise – Matthew 10:33; 1 Peter 2:11,21
The world wants to mould us to follow their pattern. They will do things to break, bend and make you to their mould. They want us to deny the Lord, but we will not deny the Lord.
Let them do what they wants to do, persecution, pain, suffering let it come, I will not compromise. No one can stop me on the way to heaven. I will not deny the Lord.
Point 2. The Pursuits of Mastery for the Crown
1 Corinthians 9:24-27; 2 Timothy 2:1-5
If we are going to win the crown, we must pursue that crown and have the mastery.
We are in a race, and we are striving for the mastery. Preachers, workers, be careful so that you will not be a castaway.
The people who want to get to heaven, don’t get involved with the politics of this world. There is occultism, idolatry in the politics. A real child on his way to heaven, will not take a chieftaincy title of the world. They will suck you with the traditions, customs and idols of this world.
Pilgrims are not easy going people, seeking for the things and praise of men. They are cleansed and called out of the world, walking on the narrow way to the Heaven
They pursue mastery because
1. They crucified the flesh – Galatians 2:20
2. They put the body, tongue, flesh under
3. They abstain from all appearance of evil – 1 Thessalonians 5:22
Not because church will discipline but because you want to get to heaven, and there is a God in heaven that is watching.
4. They flee youthful lusts – 2 Timothy 2:22
There are some people that youthful lusts are limited to those in their teens, youthful lusts are every where, and for those in their old age as well
5. Deny self while others are denying Christ – Luke 9:23
6. Resist the devil and other adversaries of the faith – 1 Peter 5:8-9
7. Reject the gains of corruption – Acts 8:18-21
8. Lay aside all weights and besetting sins – Hebrews 12:1-2
Let us lay aside the things that weigh on you, slow you down spiritually, and the things that hinder you from running this race.
9. Burn the bridges behind – Acts 19:18-19
Burn the connection between you and your past.
10. Cut off the right hand of offence – Matthew 5:29
If there is somebody or something as precious, useful, tender and affectionate as your right eye or hand, causing you to backslide, going to derail you and lose your conviction and Consecration unto the Lord, cut it off. Right hand of activities.
11. Endure persecution – 2 Timothy 3:12
Persecutions will come from places you already know, or those you never expect, but expect it, endure.
12. Prevail over hellish corrupters – 2 Peter 2:19
Point 3. The Perseverance and Model of our Captain
Hebrews 2:9-10; Luke 9:51; Hebrews 12:2-4; Philippians 2:5; John 12:49,50; 14:1-3
The Lord has gone before us, and left us an example, on how to persevere till the very end. He left us a model, that the suffering did not perplex Him, but perfected Him, and we are to follow that Model.
He knew that Crucifixion, death, suffering were awaiting Him, but He set His face to go through all these.
Let not your heart be troubled, misunderstanding, persecution, misinterpretation, oppositions, let not your heart be troubled.
I will be there in heaven.
Ponder on these by Pastor (Dr) W.F Kumuyi
When there is pride in your ministration, God will resist your usefulness
Break up your fallow ground, and sow not among thorns
When God said the man is the head of the home, He was referring to a thinking head, a planning head and a protecting head.
Covetousness is the lack of moderation in our pursuit of material riches. It is foolishness defined.
Prayer is the link between the famished and the Sustainer. We are called to pray.
Holiness is not a restrictive aspect of our lives. It is an experience that permeates every sphere of our lives.
There is a difference between self and sin. Lucifier was created without sin, but self brought him down.
Esau’s error was that he could not distinguish the value of his birthright from that of a meal! Pray wisely.
Have fellowship with your spouse in a unique way. A fellowship the mere shadow of which you cannot share with anyone.
Self has to do with the motives behind our actions. Sometimes, good acts belie evil motives.
Sadly, it is possible, with practice, to express all the externalities of holiness without a deep internal experience.
Exalting yourself is like placing a wristwatch beside the Big Ben. Such a watch would be invisible and worthless.
Once self is crushed, Christ is present, prominent and preeminent.
A Christian is not a sinner; a sinner is not a Christian.
Deny self while others are denying Christ.
